Why can Spore not connect online on my computer?

I've had Spore for over six months now, and ever since I installed it the game refuses to acknowledge an online connection. Otherwise it plays perfectly fine, but when I click "register" it says "There was an error connecting to the Spore servers. Your computer might be offline or your internet connection may be having problems." But my internet is working fine. What's going on?Why can Spore not connect online on my computer?
