****Why when i get to a certain point in spore does the game stop working? How can i stop this?****?

I recently started a new game on Spore, and every single time i get to the bit where you grow legs and go onto land, spore just stops working when i've selected what i want to look like.

I've never had this problem with SPORE, but I have had it happen with other games. It gets to a certain point and won't progress. (Like at the very bottom of the Endless Stairs in Neopets: The Darkest Faerie)



I'm going to go ahead and say that that certain part of the disk was damaged after you had progressed past that point on the last save file. Take it out and run some cool water over it, and wipe it with an eyeglass cloth(never with a paper towel or napkin) and when you do, start at the center of the disk and pull out toward the edge. They say rub around the rings, but the up/down(1, 0) pattern goes around there, and you can damage it.
